One RIM is required per rack

The Rack Interface Module (RIM) is the primary interface for the 3500 rack. It supports a proprietary protocol for configuring the rack and retrieving machine information. The RIM must be located in slot I of the rack (next to the power supply). The RIM must be located in slot I of the rack (next to the power supply).

For Triple Module Redundancy (TMR) applications, the 3500 system requires a TMR version of the RIM.In addition to all standard RIM functions, the TMR RIM performs a “monitor channel comparison”. “3500 TMR configurations implement monitor polling using the settings specified in the Monitor Options. Using this method, the TMR RIM continuously compares the output from three (3) redundant monitors. If TMR RIM detects that the information from one of the monitors is no longer within the configured percentage of the information from the other two monitors, it flags the monitor as being in error and places an event in the system event list
